Introduction

Gezondheidsplein was founded in 1998 and is an independent health information platform which is part of the solvo network: the biggest platform for online health information in the Netherlands. On the platform you can search information about for example, health conditions, disorders, healthy lifestyle and files about different health problems.

The challenge

The technical setting in which Gezondheidsplein was built was outdated and needed a redesign. The challenge was to transform the website into a more modern website while all functions continue to work in this process. Important aspects here are the number of unique visitors, the visitors who enter the website itself, and the use of advertisements. It is important that the right advertisements are placed in the right pages, and that they also remain visible on mobile screens.

The solution

The existing Gezondheidsplein pages were first in PHP and these have now been rebuilt in Vue. Levarne rebuilt all pages, so that old code had to be converted to modern techniques. Given the amount and variety of pages, this would have taken quite a bit of effort, but luckily it worked out in the end. Given the importance of the number of unique visitors, the focus was also on Search Engine Optimization during the migration process.

Old fashioned techniques, new techniques

The value

It often happens that outdated applications no longer meet the requirements, are expensive and block the innovation. In the case of Gezondheidsplein, it is given more value to convert the old code into modern techniques to modernize the website, make it less error sensitive and more future-proof.
