Introduction
Ascert is the management foundation of the asbestos certification system. Ascert takes care of the development, the changes and management of certification schemes for the benefit of people and businesses who work with asbestos. Working with asbestos is accompanied by health risks. Ascert promotes a healthy and safe working climate by stimulating and developing the professional competence and knowledge of employees (and self-employed) who work in the asbestos removing business.
The challenge
Ascert faced a challenge because the database wasn’t modellated usefully. One person could have multiple certificates but the database would reinsert the personal data per certificate. Because the personal data wasn’t always filled in exactly the same, it made it difficult to trace back whether it was the same person. From there the need arose for a solution to save the personal data of a certificate holder more uniformly in the database and to deduplicate the data with the conversion.
The solution
Levarne created a system in which all lines are matched on: ‘Last name, date of birth and first initial’. Based upon this will be determined whether it concerns the same person and if so, its lines are merged. Only a few cases of doubt are left to check manually. Besides this, the system checks daily whether new certificates are added and deduplicates them automatically when they are the same for the previously mentioned three factors. The system also includes an export function to create reports per certificate type.
The value
The deduplication system has a predictive value of 99%. This means that the major part of the data will be deduplicated automatically. This ensures a cleaner and clearer database of which reports can be made about the influx, outflow and throughput of the certificate types and it increases the analysability of the database.
